1932 – 1942  H.H. Shaikh Sir Hamad bin ‘Isa al-Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrain, KCIE (1.1.1935), CSI (3.6.1921). b. at Muharraq, before 8th February 1875, son of H.H. Shaikh ‘Isa I bin ‘Ali al-Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrain, KCIE, CSI, by his first wife, Shaikha Haya bint Muhammad al-Khalifa, daughter of Shaikh Muhammad bin Salman bin Ahmad al-Khalifa, educ. privately. Chair Manama Municipality 1920-1929. Appointed as Heir Apparent and Deputy Ruler by his father, 26th May 1923. Succeeded on his death, 9th December 1932. Installed at Muharraq, 9th February 1933. Founded the Order of al-Khalifa in three classes on 7th February 1940. Rcvd: King George V Silver Jubilee (1935) and King George VI Coron (1937) medals. m. (first) ca. 1894, Shaikha Aisha bint ‘Ali al-Khalia, widow of his elder brother, Shaikh Salman bin ‘Isa al-Khalifa al-Haj. m. (second) a daughter of Shaikh Salman bin Duaij al-Khalifa. m. (third) Shaikha Aisha bint Rashid al-Khalifa, daughter of Shaikh Rashid bin Muhammad al-Khalifa al-Khalifa. m. (fourth) 28th June 1934, a granddaughter of Imam Shaikh ‘Ali. He d. from heart failure, at Rumaitha, 20th February 1942 (bur. Al-Rifa’a Cemetery), having had issue, ten sons:
