1942 – 1961 H.H. Shaikh Salman II bin Hamad al-Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrain, KCMG (5.6.1952), KCIE (1.1.1943), KStJ (16.5.1956). b. 10th October 1894, eldest son of H.H. Shaikh Sir Hamad bin ‘Isa al-Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrain, KCIE, CSI, educ. privately. Chair Muharraq Municipality 1937-1942, and Court of Wards. Appointed as Heir Apparent by his father in a secret document, February 1940. Succeeded on the death of his father, 20th February 1942. Attended the Coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London, 1953. Granted a personal salute of 11-guns July 1942, and permanent salute of 13-guns. Presdt Bahrain Motor Fed 1952-1954. Rcvd: Queen Elizabeth II Coron Medal (2.6.1953), GC of the Order of the Dannebrog of Denmark (1957), and the Orders of Al-Rafidain 1st class of Iraq (3.4.1952), and Cedars of the Lebanon 1st class (1958). m. (first) 1910, Shaikha Latifa bint Ibrahim al-Khalifa, daughter of Shaikh Ibrahim bin Khalid al-Khalifa, by his wife, Shaikha Noora bint ‘Isa al-Khalifa. m. (second) at al-Jasra, October 1931, Shaikha Mouza bint Hamad al-Khalifa (d. 2nd May 2011), daughter of Shaikh Hamad bin Abdullah al-Khalifa, of al-Jasra. m. (third) June 1945, a daughter of ‘Abdu’llah al-Zaid. He d. at Safra, 2nd November 1961 (bur. Honaynaiya Cemetery, Rifa’a), having had issue, three sons and six daughters:

Shaikh Salman II bin Hamad al-Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrain, KCMG, KCIE, KStJ, educ. Rifa’a Palace Sch and Manama High Sch, Bahrain. Appointed as Heir Apparent by his father, 31st January 1958. Mbr Council of Regency 1953-1961, Presdt al-Khalifa Family Council, Presdt Manama Municipal Council 1956-1961, Chair Irrigation Council and Deputy Chair Admin Council 1956-1961. Succeeded on the death of his father, 2nd November 1961. Installed 16th December 1961. Assumed the title of Amir of the State of Bahrain on the attainment of full independence from Britain, 15th August 1971. Presdt Bahrain Motor Fed 1954-1999. Hon Fellow Royal Coll of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI) 1995-1999. Represented his father at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London 1954. Succeeded on the death of his father, as Amir of the State of Bahrain, with the style of His Highness, 6th March 1999.
