May 1791, fourth son of H.M. [Nguyen-Phuoc Anh] Gia-Long
[The-To Cao Hoang-De], Emperor of Vietnam, by his wife,
H.M. Empress Dowager Thuan-Thien-Thai, educ.
privately. Appointed as Heir Apparent with the title of Hoang-Thai-Tu,
6th April 1816. Invested as such, 3rd
July 1816. Succeeded on the death of his father, 25th
January 1820. Crowned at Hue, with the era name of Minh
Mang and the title of Viet Nam Hoang-De, 14th
February 1820. Altered the name of the state to Dai
Nam Quoc, becoming Dai Nam Hoang-De, 15th
February 1839. m. H.M. Empress Ta Thien Nhon (Ta
Thien Nhon Hoang-Hau) (b. 6th June
1791; d. at Hue, 8th July 1825, bur.
Hieu-dong, Cu-thanh), from the Ho family. Reputed to have
more than 100 concubines, including Ngo Thi Khanh,
daughter of the Tay Son General Ngo Van So. m. (a)
Tiep-Du Le Thi Ai, elder sister of Qui-Nhan Le Thi Loc. m.
(b) Qui-Nhan Le Thi Loc, younger sister of Tiep-Du Le Thi
Ai. He d. at the Purple Forbidden City, Hue, 20th
January 1841 (bur. Hieu-lang, Hai-cat), having had
issue, seventy-eight sons and sixty-four daughters,

Duong-xuan thuong), having had issue,
seventy-eight sons and sixty-six daughters.
