• 1) Dasho Pala Gyeltshen. m. a lady from the Tsendong in Paro. He had issue:
  • a) Dasho Sherpa Puchung [Shangpa Puenchog] Dzongpon. m. a lady from the Tsentong-pa in Paro. He had issue, a son and a daughter:
    • i) Raja Ugyen Dorji. Gongzim, Governor of Haa, and Zimpon 1907-1916. Granted the personal title of Rai Bahadur 1^st January 1907, and prom. to Raja 11^th December 1911. Rcvd: Delhi Durbar medals (1903 and 1911). He d. at Mingyur Ngonpar Gawai Phodrang (the Palace of Unchangeable Joy), Kalimpong, 22^nd June 1916, having had issue:
      • (1) Raja Sonam Tobgay Dorji, CIE (8.6.1944). b. 1896. Gongzim and Zimpon 1917-1952, Agent for Foreign Relations for the King of Bhutan, Royal Chamberlain and Governor of Ha. Granted the rank of a Deputy Minister (officer of the fourth rank) by the Dalai Lama of Tibet, 1918. Granted the personal titles of Rai Bahadur (cre. 1917) and Raja. m. at Mingyur Ngonpar Gawai Phodrang, Kalimpong, 5^th April 1918, Rani Chuni Wangmo (b. at Gangtok, Sikkim, 1897; d. 1994), youngest H.H. Sri Sri Sri Sri Sri Maharaja Sir Thutob Namgyal [mThu-stobs rNam-rgyal], Maharaja of Sikkim, KCIE, by his third wife, H.H. Sri Sri Sri Sri Sri Maharani Yeshay Dolma. He d. suddenly at Bhutan House, Kalimpong, September 1953, having had issue, three sons and two daughters:
        • (a) H.E. Dasho Jigme Palden Dorji. b. 1919. Governor of Haa 1924, and Prime Minister of Bhutan 1957-1964, Regent April 1963. m. at Bhutan House, Kalimpong, 1942, Ashi Tsering Yangzom [Tessla] (b. in Tibet, 1924, m. second, 1965, Samchok, a Tibetan refugee in India), educ. Mount Hermon Sch., Darjeeling, teacher at the Central Sch. for Tibetans at Mussoorie, daughter of H.E. Namgang Dasang Damdul Tsarong Pola, sometime C-in-C of the Tibetan Army and Shap-pe, by his wife, Tsetan Dolkar, daughter of H.E. Tsarong Wangchuk Gyalpo, sometime Shap-pe. He was k. during a game of cards at the Phuntsoling Guesthouse, 5^th April 1964, having had issue, three sons and one daughter, including:
          • (i) Dasho Paljor Jigme Dorji [Benji Dorji]. b. 1944, educ. St Joseph's Coll., Northpoint, Darjeeling, and RMA Sandhurst, UK. Chief Justice, Ambassador & Permanent Representative at the UN Geneva 1992-1994, Dep. Minister for the Environment 1994-1998, Adviser Natnl. Environmental Cmsn., Founder of the Royal Soc. for the Protection of Nature (RSPN) 1987. m. (first) (div.) Louise Bird, an Englishwoman. m. (second) (div.) …He had issue, three sons:
            • 1. Dasho Dasang Paljor Dorji (s/o Louise).
            • 2. Dasho Kalden Dorji.
            • 3. Dasho Tobgye Dorji. b. 1973.
          • (ii) Dasho Kalden Dorji, educ. St Joseph's Coll., Northpoint, Darjeeling. m. (first) at Wangdu Choling, Bumthang, 1^st August 1955 (div.), H.R.H. Princess (Ashi) Pema Choden Wangchuck (b. 1949), third daughter of H.H. Maharaja Sri Sri Sri Sri Sri Sir Jigme Wangchuk, Maharaja of Bhutan, KCIE, by his second wife, H.M. Sudhindro Prosanno (Sinha), 3^rd Baron Sinha of Raipur, Chair. & MD McNeill & Barry Ltd., Calcutta, by his wife, The Rt. Hon. Madhabi, Baroness Sinha of Raipur, daughter of Monoranjan Chatterjee, of Calcutta. m. (second) 1973 (div. 1977) Brigitte Kindh (b. in Sweden, 1953; m. second, …Widell), daughter of Tage Kindh, by his wife, Maj. m. (third) 1977, Ashi Genzing Zam Dorji. He had issue, one son by his first wife, two sons by his second wife, and two daughters by his third:

(second) Ashi Ugyen Dorji, née Savitri, a lady of Nepalese descent. He d. at the Bengdubi Army Hospital, West Bengal, India, 25^th March 2006 (cremated at Paro), having had issue, three sons, including:
            • (i) Dasho Tobgay Dorji.
            • (ii) Dasho Wangchuk Dorji. Vice-Chair. Tashi Group of Companies.
          • (c) Dasho Lhendup Dorji [Lenny Dorji]. b. at Bhutan House, Kalimpong, 6^th October 1935, educ. St Joseph's Coll., Northpoint, Darjeeling, Choate Prep. Sch., and Cornell Univ., Ithaca, New York, USA (BA 1959). Employed with the UN in New York in the 1950s. Land Surveyor, Postmaster-Gen., Paro Thrimpon, Sec-Gen. for Development, Kazi, and actg. Prime Minister 1964. Went into voluntary exile in Nepal 1964, and later settled in Kalimpong. Racehorse owner and breeder. Mbr. Royal Calcutta Turf Club. Rcvd: the Royal Red Scarf (1958). m. Glenda Dorji, née Wilkie, a lady of Anglo-Burmese descent. He d. at Lungtenphu, Thimphu, 15^th April 2007, having had issue, two sons and two daughters:
            • (i) Dasho Palden Jigme Dorji.
            • (ii) Dasho Lhendup Dorji.
            • (i) Ashi Khendum Dorji, educ. at Katmandu, Nepal and Thimphu. Political Adviser in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Conference Dvsn.), MD Chhundu Tours and Travels. m. (div.) and has issue, a daughter.
            • (ii) Ashi Chuni [Glenda] Dorji. b. 1964.
        • (a) Ashi Tashi Dorji. Governor of the Eastern. Went into voluntary exile in Nepal 1964, and returned to Bhutan in 1972.
        • (b) Ashi Kesang-la Choden Dorji [H.M. Queen Kesang Choden]. b. 21^st May 1930. m. at Paro Dzong, 5^th October 1951, H.M. Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, King of Bhutan. b. at Thuepang Palace, Tongsa, 2^nd May 1929; d. at Nairobi, Kenya, 15th July 1972), eldest son of H.H. Maharaja Sri Sri Sri Sri Sri Sir Jigme Wangchuk, Maharaja of Bhutan, KCIE, by his first wife, H.M. Queen Phuntsho Choden, elder daughter of Dasho Jamyang, Chume Shengo. She had issue one son and two daughters - see below.
    • i) Ayi Thubten Wangmo. She d. at Lhasa, Tibet, 1918.
• 2) Dasho Pila Gonpo Wangyal [Pi-la mGon-po rNam-rgyal]. b. 1782, educ. privately. m. (first) … m. (second) Ashi Sonam Pedzom, of Jangsa. He had issue, five sons and one daughter:
  • a) Dasho Namgyel. Gongzim Kitshab (s/o the first wife).
  • b) Dasho Dorji (s/o Sonam Pedzom). He had issue, a son:
    • i) Dasho Dawa Penjor. Paro Penlop 1883. He d. at Gangtey Palace, 1910, having had issue, a son:
      • (1) Dasho …, Paro Nyerchen. He had issue, a son:
        • (a) Dasho Wawel Wangdruk.
  • c) Dasho Dungkar Gyeltsen (s/o Sonam Pedzom). Tongsa Penlop 1866-1882 and Shemgang Dzongpon. He had issue, a son:
    • i) Dasho Kunzang Trinley. Thimphu Dzongpon 1886 and Wangdu Phodrang Dzongpon. He had issue, a son and a daughter:

  • d) H.H. Dasho Samdrup Jigme Namgyal [rJigs-med rNam-rgyal]. b. at Kurtyo under Lhuntsi, 1825 (s/o Sonam Pedzom), educ. privately. Installed as 11^th Trongsa Penlop 1853. 51^st Druk Desi (Deb Raja) of Bhutan 1870-1873. m. Ashi Pema Chokyi (d. 1884), daughter of Dasho Ugyen Puntso Tamshing Choji of Bumthang, by his wife, Ashi Rinchen Pemo, daughter of Sonam Drugyel, 30^th Druk Desi (Deb Raja) of Bhutan. He d. from a fall from a yak at Simtokha Dzong in the Thimphu Valley, 1881, having had issue, two sons and one daughter:
    • i) Dasho Tinley Topgye. b. 1856. Wangdo Phodrang Dzogpon 1877-1883, Paro Penlop 1883-1884. He d. from a fall from a horse at Paro bridge, 1884, having had issue:
      • (1) Dasho Namgyal.
    • ii) Dasho Ugyen Wangchuk [Urgyan dBan-phyug], who succeeded as H.H. Maharaja Sri Sri Sri Sri Sri Sir Ugyen Wangchuk, Maharaja of Bhutan - see below.
    • i) Ashi Yeshey Choden. m. her maternal first cousin, Dasho Chimi Dorji, Byagar Dzongpon later Thimphu Dzongpon, son of Dasho Pema Tenzing, Tongsa Penlop 1882. She had issue, two sons and three daughters.
